I’m a trauma-informed, person-centred senior registered and accredited counsellor/psychotherapist (NCPS). I also provide clinical supervision to other counsellors and therapists. I have an MA in counselling and psychotherapy and a postgraduate certificate in supervision (level 7). I have an accredited specialism in working with children and young people and I’ve been in full time practice as a counsellor since 2014.

In addition to my work in private practice, I’ve worked as a university lecturer, counselling trainer, counsellor in further and secondary education, and in addiction services. I’ve worked as a child and adolescent mental health practitioner (CAMHS), parent and family support practitioner, and youth project worker. I also have a background in community arts and have worked in a range of projects involving creative arts, music, drama, and dance.

I’m experienced in working with children, young people and adults who present with a range of issues including bereavement and loss, family issues, anxiety, stress, low mood, family issues, eating difficulties, illness, substance use, cultural and societal oppression, bullying, self-harm, abuse, suicidal thoughts and feelings.

I attend regular training to update my knowledge and skills.

My Approach

The quality of the relationship I’m able to develop with any client is essential, and it’s this that forms the basis of my therapeutic approach. I endeavour to ensure that clients feel in control of the work we do and the direction it takes. This means that I follow their lead and seek to really understand their experience.

I aim to create a warm and welcoming space so that children, young people, and adults feel safe and can build a relationship of trust with me. I believe that when people feel accepted, valued, and understood by a therapist, they can explore difficult issues and can begin to make sense of their experiences, thoughts, and feelings. When this happens, the intensity of difficult feelings may lessen and become more manageable, options of ways forward might begin to emerge, making personal choices can feel more possible, and views or beliefs can change, bringing about a new perspective and a new way of being.

I provide an inclusive service. I work with children, young people and adults who are neurodivergent. I work from a neurodiverse affirmative framework and recognise the challenges being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world can present for individuals. I value the diversity of intimate and family relationships and work with people from across the spectrums of sexuality and gender identities. I also work with people from different heritage and cultural backgrounds to my own. I know that cultural, social, and systemic power can cause inequality and harm. I’m committed to anti-oppressive practice and social justice.
